Abariño is one of the most exciting white grape varieties, making some truly sensational white wines. Our producer, Bodegas Morgadio, is located in the Condonao de Tea where they have 60 hectares under vine. The family also own an estate in the Ribeiro region call Bodegas Campante producing stunning white wines from the classic Ribeiro varieties.
Bodegas Morgadio
This is the warmest sub-zone of Rías Baixas though still mild, temperate and damp. The soils are granite, slate and sandy loam which provide the best conditions for growing Albariño grapes.
This unique location means that the vineyards ripen slightly earlier than in other areas allowing for picking to occur before the typical harvest-time rains come in. The yield size is also reduced due to the soils, sometimes as little as 6 tonnes/ha, which again lends itself to a higher quality of flavour and complexity in the grapes.
These climatic and soil conditions and the vineyards practices contribute to a crisp, dry wine with rounded fruit flavours of pear, apple, nectarine and hint of lychee finishing with mineral notes.
