Nestled between the Black Forest and Rhine lies the region of Markgraeflerland, an area steeped in history and culture, and with a winemaking tradition that goes back hundreds of years. In fact, winemaking in Schlatt was first mentioned in 1298. This region has been home to the Wassmer family home for many generations with the passion for grape growing and winemaking passed down from generation to generation.
The Wassmer vineyards, some of which contain some very old vines, are located in the tradition-rich idyllic wine towns of Dottingen, Laufen, Auggen and Schlatt. Thanks to the unique climate of the region, also known as the ‘Tuscany of Germany’, the terroir lends itself to exception production of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris as well as the more unusual Gutedel (also known as Chasselas), Gewurztraminer and Muscatel. All of the Wassmer wines are matured exclusively in barriques.
